Professor Fu Peirong gave lectures on the Eighteenth Lecture of "Qingyuan Chinese Classics Studies Seminar"

On the afternoon of May 14th, the Eighteenth Lecture of "Qingyuan Chinese Classics Studies Seminar", sponsored by International Confucian Association, was held at NAEA. Fu Peirong, the professor in the Department of Philosophy at Taiwan University, began his lecture with the theme "The Sky of Chinese Classics Studies, the Mission of Scholars - Modern Significance of Confucianism". Professor Yu Jianfu, the Director of the International Confucian Association Publicity and Publishing Committee and the Director of the Chinese Classics Study Education and Research Center of NAEA, presided over the lecture.

Fu Peirong believes that Chinese culture is broad and profound, especially the Confucianism and the Taoism formed in Spring and Autumn period are precious. Established by Confucius and Mencius, Confucianism requires self-cultivation and shouldering social responsibility, so as to help educate the people and stabilize the world. As a result, it has been in the social mainstream for a long time. The Confucianism advocates that "human nature is good", whose intention is self-awakening. It emphasizes that people should trigger the internal power to do good works by sincerity, and choose the good behaviors and stick out, so as to make "the elders feel at ease, the friends trust me, and the young people respect me".Fu Peirong stresses that the key to practicing Confucianism today is "discipline, consideration, frugality, and respectation". He also hopes people to study the analects of Confucius and Mencius carefully.

All the participants of the 55th Class of University Mid-level Administrators Program, the 48th Education Research Class of Studies of Classical Chinese Culture, as well as the organizers and more than 220 scholars from all over the country attended the lecture. After the lecture, Fu Peirong made a brilliant response to the questions that people were concerned about, "the contradiction and relationship between Yangming philosophy and Confucianism", "the reason why Confucianism transcends the limitation of time and space" and "whether Xuncius belongs to Confucianism".

Before the lecture, executive vice president Ma Junjie, vice president Hou Huijun and vice president Yu Jingtian met with Professor Fu Peirong, and presented to him the calligraphy written by Mr. He Guangrong.  (Chinese version by Chinese Classics Study Education and Research Center,NAEA; English version by Jinling Yao, Office for International Cooperation, NAEA)
